BACK SOON !

Having spent the last two years sourcing or fabricating one off parts and with a massive support from Clive Bond (ford guru) from ULTIMATE RACE CARS, we finally have what we believe is they ultimate big block ford engine possible. with Bryant stroker crank, BME rods, Diamond custom 15:1 coated skirt pistons, jesel cam gear driven by a Danny bee belt drive.

This is fed by a RONS 2100 CFM four barrel alcohol injection system with ignition courtesy of MSD pro billet distributor and crank timing sensor.

The weak point of the whole ford set up has been addressed by modifying to crank priority oiling with internal manifold in the valley feeding crank mains and by restricting valve chest with by pass tubes and block restrictors combined with a new MOROSO high volume dry sump pump with three scavenge circuits returning oil to moroso dry sump tank.

The switch to this new combination dictated re designing the complete front end set up to squeeze in fuel tank new radiator, alternator, water pump, fuel pump and vac pump into the limited space the sierra offers.

Due to this step up in performance we have fitted box sills and a funny car cage (to protect marks neck when falls asleep in the rain in the staging lanes) also mark has a new stroud two piece suite and HANNS device courtesy of Andy Robinson race cars we will be running the car on LUCAS OIL as we are now stockists having looked into various lubrication solutions and feel Luscas oil is the best available product.

THE BIG FIRE UP.

This week has been a roller coaster with highs and lows but we eventually fired the car for the first time and she fought back as always squirting methanol in small well directed shot hitting Curtis in the ear some six foot away  and then taking it upon it self to eat it’s own starter.

Having fitted the msd ‘starter saver’ that everybody said was not necessary this unit has proved that it does exactly what it says on the box and saves the starter by retarding the ignition 10 degrees whilst cranking the biggest issue left was convincing Curtis that you can be on fire without serious injury as long as it means the car has started and the crew remember to put him out amongst all the excitement  of the motor firing, he now looks really nervous when handed  squirty bottle full of petrol.

All said and done when the car fired all the hard work faded in our minds as she really sound crisp and strong we ran the car up to temperature and all seemed to be in good shape methanol does sound and smell completely different to the C16 were use to I think we may invest in respirators as the methanol like any alcohol does make your head spin especially when you ask for a damp cloth to breathe through only to be handed the rag full of brake cleaner, I think after waiting the crew tried to knock me out to keep me in the car until Easter.

Just like to say a big thank you to everybody who has helped get the car sorted in particular Clive Bond, Andy Robinson, and Ian Marshall.

And of course the crew Curt, Rich, Sam and Claire all of whom support me and the crazy often confusing  ideas I come up with all in the quest to make an old ford a little bit more exciting.

See you at the track soon and keep a look out for Sam Cam arriving in the New Year.
