Nearly time .... After 16 days of non stop action at Electromec Services facility in Hampshire the Sierra is ready to run. The Team are about as confident as they ever have been in solving some of the problems the new version of the car has thrown at us, and she has fought us all the way . Lots of modifications have taken place in the hope to run that elusive 8 second pass. The "winter" rebuild went somthing like this, The Engine has been completely rebuilt with new conrods, Mark fabricated a custom crank scraper and changed the way oil is collected and distributed within the engine. The inlet manifold has never been a perfect fit and we took time to port match it exactly, We've indexed the plugs in a different way to last year and made some minor changes to the carb. all in all mostly maintainance with maybe a few extra horses. The big change we hope will come from the new Neal Chance convertor , Custom made for our application it should reduce the slip and transfer a lot more power on the launch . The final addition to the car is in the aerodynamics dept , Mark commented on the car feeling light at the top end and the datalogger backed his concerns after much research and guidance from Andy Robinson we made and installed a "gurney" strip to the rear defuser and made a splitter for the front end . So with all the work done its time to get to the track and see what we have done , having already missied 2 rounds of the national championship and itching to get out there we decided to enter the Big Bang bracket race on bank holiday monday . It would be nice to think we can come off the trailer and compete but realistically we would be happy just to get down the track in one piece and solve last years problems , In any case im sure Eurodragster supremo Tog in his first outing in anger will be the man to beat ... Good luck Tog! The Crew |
